Believe and You're There

While in college, I lived in Romania with some lovely women. We were working in an orphanage and children's hospital. One of the girls I lived with, my friend Katherine, recently turned me on to the most darling children's chapter books in the whole wide world.

It's a series called Believe and You're There.

These are fictional books about three children that step through paintings into stories from the scriptures. They are fun, easy to read books that are perfect to read to young children before bed or for older readers to fall in love with.

My children have loved reading these stories. My four year old knows the scriptures better and is able to remember the stories. He has identified with the characters. We love these darling books!

Speaking of my darling friend Katherine, she is the first mother in this little clip. She's beautiful, and she's right--the Believe and You're There series is darling. (The perfect stocking stuffer!)

AdoraPet recently sent me some of their new children's picture books. I was sent a copy of the Mermaid Adventure and Firefighter Adventure. These are the perfect little books for gifts, keeping in your bag for when you are out, and reading all the time!

One of my favorite parts is that there are comprehension questions at the beginning of the book. That way you can ask children questions and they know what they should be listening for in the story. Comprehension is a major reading skill!

Carmen Rasmusen Herbert Who's Your Idol Review and Giveaway...

Living Scriptures Giveaway...

Just the other day my husband and I were reminiscing about the old movie, "Nephi and the Brass Plates" by Living Scriptures. In both our families, while growing up, watching it was a favorite Family Home Evening activity.

My husband said something really interesting about it that stuck with me. He said, "I knew the story of Nephi backwards and forwards because of that movie. I knew it better than any of the other scriptures."

I think that, alone, is a fabulous reason to have these movies; to expose your children at an early age to the scriptures. He's right, that is how I have come to know these stories, learned to love them, and WANT to read them in the scriptures.

I was so excited for the opportunity to review the new Shadows of Brierley series, by author Anita Stansfield! I love her writing style and I am touched by each series she writes. All 3 of the above books kept me intrigued and excited to see what would happen next. I had a hard time putting them down. The characters are amazing and touch your life for good.

Author Anita Stansfield began writing at the age of sixteen, and her first novel was published sixteen years later. Her novels range from historical to contemporary and cover a wide gamut of social and emotional issues that explore the human experience through memorable characters and unpredictable plots. She has received many awards. Anita is the mother of five and has two adorable grandsons.

Your Happily Ever After Review and Giveaway...

I am excited to tell you about Sara and Kate's awesome cookbook that I got to review... These beautiful women love to cook! They're also wives and mothers balancing home management, part-time work, church and community involvement, and countless other things — just like you!

Check out their fun blog here. As busy moms, their philosophy is that cooking really good food for your family doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, cooking at home can be a delicious, fun, and easy way to care for your family and friends.

Our Best Bites bring together more than 150 recipes for delicious, easy meals and snacks that are fun to make, include healthy, fresh ingredients, and are more popular with families. The authors share their tips and tricks (mixed with an abundant sense of humor), and step-by-step, full-color photographs for each recipe.

This amazing cookbook is one of my new favorites! I love how yummy and easy the recipes are. The step by step directions are great. I also like the pictures in it. My family gets excited when they see I am cooking something else out of it. Our Best Bites gets 5 stars from our family. This is perfect for any kitchen and makes a wonderful gift!

Michael Ethington CD & Songbook Review and Giveaway...

Thanks to Michael Ethington we got to review his amazing CD's and Songbooks!

My hubby and I have met Michael a couple of times and we think he is awesome! He was a huge help with our Serving Others This Holiday Season project last year. Not only is he a wonderful guy, but he is also a very talented pianist.

His first CD and songbook, BELIEVE is arranged hymns switched up Micheal style. We love this CD and play it often. You can listen to a sample of his amazing music here.

We also got his upcoming second CD and songbook, BECOME. It will officially release in November and it's been a long time coming! We love all the songs on it.

We like that he has songbooks available as well. When we play these in our home, it brings such peace, love and calmness. Thank you so very much Micheal for blessing and touching our lives with your beautiful music!

17 Miracles arrived on DVD and Blu-ray September 13th from Excel Entertainment Group.

A Pioneer Film Like You’ve Never Seen Before...

As part of the Willie Handcart Company, Levi Savage (Jasen Wade) feared that leaving late in the season would lead to despair and death. What he came to find out is that for every tragedy, there is a multitude of miracles.

Based on unbelievable actual events, and brought to you by filmmaker T.C. Christensen (Praise to the Man, The Work and the Glory), 17 Miracles will open your eyes to the stories of the Mormon Pioneers as you have never seen them before. Something extraordinary is about to happen.

Levi Savage kept meticulous records as he made his journey west toward the Salt Lake Valley. Many of the unbelievable miracles showcased in 17 Miracles come directly from Levi's first hand journal entries.

This movie pays tribute to the people who followed their faith using wooden handcarts to carry their supplies as they walked to the Salt Lake Valley. It's amazing to see all that the pioneers went through as they walked though freezing snow and ice cold rivers. They lost a lot of their loved ones but still kept pressing forward to get to Salt Lake. Jason Wade does an excellent job portraying Levi Savage. You get a real feel of the fear they felt when being threatened by mobs and having to leave town. This is a good family movie. It really makes you appreciate all that we have. Since we have relatives that came over with the Willie Handcart Company, this movie was personal and very touching.

This one day conference will feature prominent speakers that will inspire, educate and of course upLIFT. The event will be held on Oct. 29th in the Orem High School auditorium (175 South 400 East, Orem Utah) and it goes from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (with an hour lunch break - lunch will not be provided by event. Doors open for seating at 8:30am).

Topics include improving spouse communication, letting go of anxiety and regret, and having hope when life brings its challenges. Liz Edmunds (star of the popular TV show, The Food Nanny) will be the hostess. Other speakers include Dr. John Lund, Hank Smith, Meg Johnson, Sheldon Martin, Kathy Jenkins, Kim Nelson and a performance by Amy Hansen.

Conversations with a Moonflower Review and Giveaway...

Janitors Book Review and Giveaway...

No one takes Spencer Zumbro seriously when he tried to warn his classmates about the mysterious things prowling the halls and classrooms of Welcher Elementary School. But when he sees Marv, the janitor, going after one of the creatures with a vacuum, he knows he's not the only one who can see them.

With the help of his new friends, Spencer has to find out what the janitors know. The children's search uncovers the magic taking place behind the scenes of their seemingly ordinary school, where a battle is being waged for the minds of the students. Who can be trusted - and can Spencer and Daisy protect their school and possibly the world?

Tyler Whitesides worked as a janitor at a middle school to put himself through college. It was there that he discovered the many secrets and mysteries that can be hidden in a dusty school. Tyler graduated from Utah State University with a degree in music. He enjoys spending time in the mountains, cooking on the barbecue, and vacuuming. Tyler lives in Logan, Utah, with his wife, Connie, a third-grade teacher. Janitors is his first novel.

This is such a fun book! I was excited to read it. Being a Mom of all boys I knew I would love it. It's full of adventure and gives you a few laughs along the way. A great book for kids to read because it teaches them there are consequences for their actions and they should always be honest. I got to meet Tyler and loved his enthusiasm for writing and about his new book. It's great this is also available on CD and Tyler even reads it himself.

I really enjoyed following the journey in this moving book! The stories touched me incredibly. What a powerful example the pioneers are to me. They were faithful, enduring and had a great love for the Gospel and their family and friends. Not long ago it was Pioneer Day so it was a great time to read this book to reflect on the pioneers. This is an excellent book and well written!

Regi Bernard's small hometown on the Snake River is good for some things (like fishing) but bad for others (like avoiding old flames). On one unlucky day, Regi runs in to the two men she least wants to see: Samuel Tanner, her first love, whose sudden rejection still stings decades later; and Ranger Curtis Romney, the man who trampled her daughter's heart and reputation. But the next day, Regi's luck is even worse. While trespassing on Samuel's land to fish, she discovers a dead body in the willows. And when Regi reports the murder, she becomes the prime suspect. Of course Regi knows she's innocent.

What she doesn't know is why the murder leads keep pointing to her, and she's not going to sit around waiting while others find out. Unraveling a murder case in a small town where everyone and everything is interconnected is a tangled task at best. As Regi takes matters into her own hands, she finds the evidence points to multiple townspeople as the possible killer, including Regi's own sister. With so many possibilities, Regi can't get the job done without getting close to one particular suspect, Samuel, the man she'd hoped to avoid forever. The two of them will need more than luck if they're going to clear their names and their past. And as Regi races to discover the truth about the murder, she may very well face her own.

About the Author...
Raised in southeastern Idaho, Kathi Oram Peterson developed a love for the Snake River that winds through much of the region. She spent many happy adventures with family and friends swimming, boating, and fishing on the river. Though she now resides in Salt Lake City, she returns to the Snake River Valley often for vacations. When her children finished school, Kathi finished her English degree at the University of Utah. She worked for several years, writing and editing children's books for a curriculum publisher. Upon leaving the workforce, she turned her attention to writing novels. Setting a romantic-suspense novel in Idaho with the river she loves came naturally.

I was excited to be able to review this book! I love the suspense and romance in it. I found it very touching and liked the characters. Regi's strong faith and trust in prayer was amazing. I really enjoyed reading this book. Thank you Kathi Oram Peterson for sharing your talented writing!

We loved these two books and the funny stories in them! The stories really hit home and remind me so much of silly things that happen with my kids. It's great to take everyday things and find the humor in them. Thanks Jane for the great laughs and sharing these books with us!
